U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the U.S. Navy informed him that all naval mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz have been removed or detonated.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump added that Iran has been notified that any ship or boat attempting to lay new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed.
He emphasized that the United States is monitoring "every inch" of the Strait of Hormuz using U.S. Space Force assets, as well as monitoring three other nuclear sites that were previously destroyed. He stressed that a "zero-tolerance policy on mine placement is in full force and effect."
Only two commodity vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Monday—both entering the Gulf—marking the lowest daily transit count recorded since early May, according to maritime shipping data.
Data from vessel-tracking firm Kpler on Tuesday indicated a significant decline in transiting vessels compared to the 10-day average of 14 ships per day, noting that one large gas carrier and one crude oil tanker passed through the strait coming from the Gulf of Oman.
Prior to the war, approximately 20% of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) flows passed through the strategic waterway.
