Jordan witnessed a deep partial lunar eclipse on Friday dawn, with observation teams and astronomy enthusiasts across the Kingdom tracking the event prior to moonset over the western horizon, according to Ammar Al-Sakji, President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society (JAS).
Key details of the astronomical event include:
Observation Timeline: Field observations conducted from northern Amman began at 4:10 AM and continued until approximately 5:50 AM. The phenomenon was documented using time-lapse photography, capturing roughly 6,000 frames over 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Eclipse Phases: The moon entered Earth's penumbral shadow at approximately 4:24 AM, leading to a gradual dimming of its surface. The partial eclipse phase officially commenced at 5:33 AM as part of the lunar disk entered Earth's dark umbra, aligning with calculations published by the JAS weeks prior.
Eclipse Magnitude and Saros Series: At global peak, Earth's shadow covered 96.2% of the lunar disk. Although the maximum alignment occurred after the moon had set below Jordan's western horizon, early partial stages remained visible alongside morning twilight. The event belongs to Saros Series 138, marking the 29th eclipse out of 82 in the cycle.
