The seventh edition of the 2026 "Sonbola" initiative for public schools concluded under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Alya bint Tawfiq Al Tabbaa. Launched by Al-Joud for Scientific Care in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and backed by Arab Bank, the initiative culminated in a ceremony honoring winning schools.
The ceremony recognized 50 public schools across various educational directorates in the Kingdom for developing innovative educational projects with sustainable impact. The event also highlighted inspiring stories from teachers demonstrating how simple ideas and limited resources can generate tangible improvements in school environments and communities.
Arab Bank's support reflects its corporate sustainability and social responsibility strategy, rooted in the belief that education serves as a fundamental pillar for building resilient communities.
Key Achievements of the "Sonbola" Initiative
Launched in 2018, the initiative fosters an entrepreneurial spirit among educators, enabling them to devise and implement practical solutions to school challenges in collaboration with local communities.
School Participation: Approximately 1,300 public schools participated in this year's edition.
Teacher Training: Over 7,000 male and female teachers received specialized training in the "Sonbola" methodology, with more than 22,000 certificates issued for life-skills training modules.
Project Execution: Over 2,500 projects were implemented across the Kingdom, directly benefiting more than 750,000 students.
Sustained Innovation: A total of 67 public schools were specially recognized for executing seven or more projects, embedding the initiative's methodology as a continuous practice.
Maher Kaddoura, founder of Al-Joud for Scientific Care, noted that "Sonbola" operates on the conviction that meaningful change stems not from abundant resources, but from maximizing available tools. He expressed appreciation for Arab Bank's ongoing strategic sponsorship, which began in 2021.
Arab Bank's involvement forms part of its broader "Together" community program, which collaborates with civil society organizations across critical sectors, including education, health, poverty alleviation, environmental protection, women's empowerment, and orphan care.
