The number of registered suicide cases in Jordan fell last year to 156, compared to 166 cases in 2024, marking a decrease of approximately 6%, according to the annual report of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).
The report showed, based on data issued by the National Center for Forensic Medicine affiliated with the Ministry of Health, that registered suicide cases during 2025 were distributed between 112 males and 44 females, compared to 136 males and 30 females in 2024.
According to the data, the age groups 19–24 years and 25–34 years recorded the highest number of cases during the year, with 41 cases each, totaling 82 cases—representing more than half of all cases recorded during 2025.
The 35–44 age group recorded 24 cases, and the 15–18 age group recorded 18 cases, while the under-15 age group recorded 11 cases.
The number of cases in the 45–54 age group stood at 12, and in the 55–64 group at 6 cases, while 3 cases were recorded for individuals over the age of 65.
The National Centre for Human Rights noted that recording 18 suicide cases among the 15–18 age group underscores the necessity of paying close attention to this demographic and intensifying mental health, preventive, psychological support, and behavior modification programs.
In terms of distribution by method, data showed that hanging was the most frequently recorded method with 84 cases, followed by falling from height with 29 cases, and gunshot wounds with 25 cases, while 9 cases were recorded from burns and 9 cases through other means.
The Centre reaffirmed its previous recommendations regarding the non-criminalization of attempted suicide and the necessity of providing social, psychological, health, and economic support to individuals who attempt it, alongside studying the underlying causes of suicide, including economic conditions, poverty, unemployment, and their impacts.
