Jordan joined regional leaders on Wednesday for the opening of the 40th Arab Conference of the Heads of Anti-Narcotics Agencies, hosted by the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC).
The event gathered officials from member state interior ministries, the Arab League, the GCC Criminal Information Center for Combat Drugs, INTERPOL, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Anti-Narcotics Department Director Brig. Gen. Hassan Qudah represented the Kingdom at the summit.
AIMC Secretary-General Mohammad Koman noted that the conference runs alongside several specialized security meetings to curb regional drug trafficking.
On Tuesday, the working group concerned with the immediate exchange of information on narcotics and psychotropic substances held its annual meeting, serving as an early-warning system for Arab joint security operations.
Simultaneously, contact points for the newly established Arab Drug Observatory convened for their second meeting. Launched last year by the Secretariat General in collaboration with Arab League partners, the observatory receives technical support from the EU Action Against Organized Crime and Terrorism project.
An interdisciplinary Arab expert panel will meet Thursday to address broader illicit drug challenges.
Throughout the conference, delegates are evaluating emerging threats posed by synthetic drugs, discussing global trends, and sharing national anti-narcotics strategies.
