WASHINGTON / AMMAN
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that Iran will soon be added to the list of United States victories, similar to what occurred in Venezuela, asserting that Tehran has suffered a severe defeat and that he will end the war with it shortly.
Trump added that the United States has eliminated Iran's air and naval capabilities, leaving it with only a small number of missiles, while noting that Iran faces difficulties in manufacturing drones due to power supply disruptions.
Trump emphasized that the United States will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, maintaining that Iran initiated the war back in 1979 when it killed a large number of Americans.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in an effort to revive peace talks and avert a new U.S. strike on Iran.
The newspaper quoted one of its sources stating that the letter was dispatched at the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that both the letter and subsequent talks between U.S. and Iranian officials focused on establishing a potential framework for negotiations, rather than delving into specific details of a peace proposal.
