AMMAN / KARAK
The mother of a tenth-grade female student at a high school in Karak revealed that her daughter was subjected to a severe physical assault by several female students following her victory in the student parliamentary elections, in an incident that sparked widespread outrage and raised questions regarding school violence and measures to protect students within educational institutions.
In details conveyed to "Rum", the mother stated that her daughter is known for her good conduct and academic excellence, noting according to her account that her daughter does not know the students who assaulted her and shares no prior disputes or animosities with them.
She added that three female students who do not belong to her daughter's classroom approached her last Thursday and issued threats, saying: "God willing, we will carry you out of the school on a stretcher to the hospital," before bending her arm and pushing her violently.
The mother explained that feeling concerned for her daughter on Sunday, she accompanied her to school to follow up on the matter and understand its causes, whereupon the educational counselor investigated the students and inquired about the nature of the dispute and whether prior acquaintance existed between them.
According to the mother's account, while her daughter was speaking in front of the counselor, one of the students shouted at her face, saying: "Shut your mouth," while also alleging that verbal and religious insults were uttered during the incident.
She continued that the assault occurred after the students exited the counselor's office, inside the school hallways, where a group of female students attacked her daughter, beating her on the head, hair, back, abdomen, and various parts of her body.
The mother affirmed that she witnessed four female students participating in the assault, whereas the students claimed, according to her account, that their number was only three.
She noted that her daughter suffered bruises on various parts of her body, necessitating her transfer to Karak Government Hospital for medical treatment, confirming that she obtained an official medical report documenting the injuries resulting from the incident.
The mother expressed her outrage over what her daughter endured, emphasizing the absence of any prior hostility between her daughter and the aggressors, while demanding an investigation into the circumstances of the assault and holding those responsible accountable according to legal and educational procedures.
The mother stated that she appeals to the relevant authorities to work on transferring the aggressive students away from her daughter's school to ensure her safety and protect her from any future attacks, noting that she lives in a state of anxiety and fear for her daughter as long as the students remain in the same school.
The mother remarked that what her daughter experienced this time was a physical beating, but she does not know what she might be subjected to in the future or whether the students might resort to harming her through more dangerous means if they remain in the same school.
She stressed that her demand stems from a concern for her daughter's safety and her right to pursue her education within a secure school environment free from threats, intimidation, and violence, calling on the Ministry of Education and the competent Directorate of Education to intervene urgently and take measures to ensure her protection and prevent the recurrence of such an assault.
