AMMAN
The Education and Training Department at Al-Kindi Hospital organized a specialized lecture titled "Etiquette for Interacting with Persons with Disabilities," delivered by Dr. Reham Abu Ghaboush, Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Jordan, for male and female staff members at the hospital's main conference center.
The lecture aimed to disseminate knowledge, raise awareness regarding methods of human and professional communication and interaction with persons with disabilities in hospitals, and emphasize the necessity for staff across all categories to adhere to work rules and policies while considering their needs according to disability types and categories. It also covered general interaction guidelines, such as using correct terminology for persons with disabilities, asking before providing assistance rather than imposing it on them, and avoiding patronizing behavior.
Dr. Abu Ghaboush addressed the various types of disabilities and the specific approaches required for communicating with each type distinctively from others, including physical disabilities, visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual or cognitive disabilities, and psychological or neurological conditions, alongside the rights guaranteed to them under medical regulations, legal frameworks, rights-based guidelines, and specialized instructions.
At the conclusion of the lecture, an extensive discussion took place covering numerous aspects related to the topic, during which questions and inquiries from the attendees were answered.
It is worth noting that Al-Kindi Hospital is a private medical center encompassing all medical specialties and housing specialized centers for bariatric surgery, plastic surgery and liposuction, vascular surgery, IVF, lithotripsy, interventional radiology, cancer detection (breast cancer), organ transplant surgeries, cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery, a gastrointestinal and biliary endoscopy unit, and a dedicated emergency department equipped with state-of-the-art devices and modern ambulances.
