Following his election as Speaker of the House of Representatives, MP Ibrahim Al-Tarawneh emphasized in his address that the House of Representatives must fulfill the role described by His Majesty the King: acting as the voice of the citizen and guardian of the public interest. He noted that the House constitutes a primary pillar of the constitutional system of governance, an institution for legislation and oversight, and a bridge connecting society with the state. Al-Tarawneh stressed that success is not measured by the quantity of passed laws, but by their quality, fairness, and ability to address citizens' grievances. He added that oversight does not signify hostility toward the government, cooperation does not imply subordination, and the executive branch is not above accountability, as every authority holds its constitutional role governed by the public interest.
Al-Tarawneh stated that MPs must recognize that Jordanians do not expect a mere description of difficult realities, but rather actionable solutions for unemployment, living costs, public debt, water scarcity, and energy security. He called for discussing policies and priorities with courage and responsibility, noting that these issues constitute burdens on citizens' daily lives and must sit at the forefront of legislative and oversight work.
He reaffirmed his commitment to freedom of opinion and expression and the preservation of the right to dissent, stressing that the dignity of the House is safeguarded through high achievement and genuine stances. Al-Tarawneh emphasized that the House's national duty is to protect the state through the power of the Constitution and to safeguard Jordan through national unity.
Furthermore, Al-Tarawneh affirmed that the House will exercise result-oriented oversight grounded in data and Audit Bureau reports, scrutinizing expenditure efficiency, protecting public funds, and linking responsibility with accountability. He noted that parliamentary committees will serve as hubs of expertise and dialogue, studying legislation and hearing from specialists, while calling on parliamentary blocks to build areas of cooperation around shared priorities. He added that political blocks should compete based on clear programs, advancing the political modernization path directed by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Al-Tarawneh pledged to the members of the House to weigh all positions against the Constitution and public interest, conveying external debates under the parliamentary dome to reach common ground, while remaining open to political parties, professional syndicates, civil society organizations, and the media.
On regional affairs, Al-Tarawneh affirmed that the Palestinian cause will remain a issue of right and justice, reiterating Jordan's firm rejection of all displacement schemes. He expressed absolute support behind His Majesty King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II in defending the nation's interests and legitimate rights.
The Speaker of the House concluded his address by paying tribute to the martyrs of the Hamoud Church, stressing that Jordan will remain immune to sedition and adversity. He affirmed that no interest ranks above Jordan's interest, no consideration precedes the state's standing, and no gain equals the dignity, security, and stability of Jordanians.
