HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal, Honorary President of the Arab Women Media Center, stressed the importance of the role that women play in the media sector, and the professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the principles and ethics of journalistic work and its conventions.
This came in a speech by Her Highness yesterday, Saturday, during the opening of the 18th conference of the Arab Women Media Center, which is being held at the Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration, in partnership with the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum under the slogan “Digital Media Enhanced for Change”, with the participation of female media professionals from various Arab countries, in addition to to Jordan.
Her Highness said, in the presence of Minister of Culture Haifa Al-Najjar, Governor of Madaba, Nayef Al-Hidayat, and Director of the UNESCO Office in Amman Min Jong Kim, that Arab women have achieved a remarkable and prominent presence in the field of media in all its forms, and in the production of news and program content.
Her Highness considered that the Arab media person plays a role that is no less important and dangerous than her male brother in conveying the media message, especially in the fields of wars, conflict areas and burning arenas. Her life was under threat and danger, referring in this context to the many Arab female journalists who died while performing their work.
Her Highness praised the selection of the Arab Media Center for the city of Madaba to hold the conference, to celebrate its selection as the capital of Arab tourism for 2022, and to shed light on this ancient city, and its tourist, heritage and historical diversity.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al-Fayez, pointed to the positive impact of the partnership between the media and national institutions working on revitalizing and promoting tourism. In highlighting the bright picture of the reality and culture of our Arab countries, and attracting more tourists and investment, both direct and indirect.
He considered that the conference is a real opportunity to deepen this partnership and introduce the city of Madaba, its unique identity, and its diversity and heritage, and this year it was chosen as an icon for local, Arab and international tourism.
Al-Fayez pointed to the role of digital transformations, the communications revolution, and professional and balanced digital media in pushing and revitalizing tourism as an important economic resource.
He said that the trend towards a knowledge economy in Jordan, in implementation of the royal visions, contributed greatly to the Ministry's implementation of projects and promotional campaigns, and the strong competition in this field.
In turn, the founder and president of the Arab Women Media Center, Mahasin Al-Imam, said that Arab women media professionals have created success stories in all aspects by conveying the event and keeping abreast of technological developments, in light of the rapid spread of social networking sites.
She referred to the center's achievements nearly a quarter of a century after its establishment, indicating that the center's message reached every media person in the Arab world, away from any considerations, in a translation of the meanings of solidarity, solidarity and cohesion, in the service of Arab issues and Arab media affairs.
The conference agenda focuses on the shift towards digital media, its impact on media women, and their role in it, discussion and exchange of successful experiences between male and female media professionals at the level of Jordan and the Arab world, and the creation of a network concerned with Arab women's media issues.
A film entitled Madaba, Capital of Arab Tourism, prepared by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, was shown during the opening session of the conference.
On the sidelines of the conference, Her Highness inaugurated an exhibition that included a large group of publications by the Ministry of Culture, and another exhibition for folklore in Madaba.
