On Monday, His Majesty King Abdullah II and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed the dangerous conditions in Gaza and the role of international organizations in performing their humanitarian tasks in the Strip.
During his meeting with Guterres at Al-Husseiniya Palace, in the presence of His Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty stressed the need for immediate and urgent action by the international community to reduce the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
His Majesty stated that Jordan is making every effort to deliver humanitarian aid by all available means, by land and air, to the people of Gaza, and is coordinating closely with various international organizations and many countries of the world to enhance the humanitarian response.
The need to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was stressed, to enable it to provide its humanitarian services in accordance with its UN mandate, especially in light of the deteriorating conditions in Gaza.
His Majesty the King reaffirmed the importance of an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and enabling its residents to return to their homes.
His Majesty stressed Jordan's rejection of the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, warning of the violence practiced by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations against the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Al-Safadi, and Director of His Majesty the King's Office, Jaafar Hassan.
