The US Treasury Secretary warned on Saturday of "severe consequences" if Chinese companies were found to be helping Russia in its war on Ukraine, days after the United States expressed concern that Beijing was helping Russia rebuild its military defense sector.

The Treasury Department said in a statement that Yellen "stressed that companies, including companies in China, should not provide support for Russia's war on Ukraine, including support for the Russian defense industry," warning of "severe consequences if they do so."
