A member of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Khalil al-Hayya said, on Wednesday, that the Palestinian factions' meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a "natural response to the occupation's project that aims to fragment the nation."
He added, during a press conference, following al-Assad's meeting in Damascus, that Hamas is against targeting Syria from any Zionist or American external aggression or any other aggression, stressing the resumption of Odeh and the movement's work with Syria in support of its stability and unity.
"We are closing any wrong individual act that took place in the past against Syria, and we agree with President al-Assad to put the past behind," according to Al-Hayya.
On Wednesday, a delegation comprising representatives of the Palestinian factions arrived in Syria, including a delegation from the Hamas movement, which is visiting Damascus for the first time since it cut its relations with Damascus more than ten years ago, following the outbreak of the conflict in the country.
Hamas was considered one of the closest Palestinian allies of President Bashar al-Assad. And made Damascus its headquarters abroad for years, before criticizing the authorities' repression of the protests that swept the country starting in mid-March 2011, and the relationship between the two parties was cut off.
