Bassem Sarhan, chief of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, said a number portability project will allow subscribers to retain their numbers when moving between operators.

He said the project, part of the digital transformation plan, was finalised with mobile companies after completing feasibility studies.

Sarhan added that 4G now covers 100% of populated areas and 35% of the 5G rollout plan has been implemented. Jordan is the seventh Arab country to launch 5G despite challenges, he said.

He also pointed to the introduction of satellite internet, including through Orange, to serve remote areas such as Wadi Rum.

According to the commission, the average mobile subscription stands at JD7 per month, while fibre internet averages JD22.

The commission received 4,007 complaints in 2024, all resolved with penalties against violators.
