The International Arab Islamic Bank sponsored the Forum on the Employment of Artificial Intelligence in Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, held recently at the InterContinental Hotel in Amman. The event, titled “Opportunities, Risks, and the Future Path”, was organised by the Union of Arab Banks in collaboration with the Central Bank of Jordan and the Association of Banks in Jordan. It was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Adel Sharkas, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, and attended by Mr. Eyad Al-Asali, General Manager of the International Arab Islamic Bank, along with a distinguished group of experts, legislators, and practitioners from several Arab countries and specialised international institutions. The forum provided a platform to discuss the future of AI-driven governance, the evolving nature of cyber threats, and the legal and ethical frameworks required to ensure the safe and responsible application of these technologies.

The discussions shed light on various topics designed to explore the multifaceted role of artificial intelligence in the financial sector. Particular attention was given to its use in combating financial crimes, predicting financial risks, strengthening financial oversight, and detecting suspicious activities. Strategies were also put forward to address growing cybersecurity threats and enhance resilience within the banking sector.

Mr. Eyad Al-Asali expressed his gratitude to the Union of Arab Banks for organising this important forum in Jordan and to the Central Bank of Jordan for its generous sponsorship. He emphasised that the participation and sponsorship of the International Arab Islamic Bank reflect its continued commitment to supporting the activities of the Union of Arab Banks and to fulfilling its social role by contributing to both local and international conferences and seminars. Such efforts, he noted, aim to advance the work of Arab and Islamic banks and foster their development.

At the conclusion of the forum, Dr. Khaldoun Al-Weshah, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, representing the Governor, and Dr. Wissam Fattouh, Secretary General of the Union of Arab Banks, presented a shield of appreciation to Mr. Al-Asali. This gesture honoured the bank’s sponsorship and support of the forum and recognised its ongoing efforts and initiatives in serving the mission of the Union of Arab Banks and promoting its performance toward greater excellence.
