WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday there is a “real opportunity” to achieve progress in talks aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

Speaking alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House, Trump said another team had just departed to join discussions on his plan to end the conflict.

On 29 September, Trump unveiled a 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, which still requires approval from the concerned parties. The plan includes his chairmanship of a committee overseeing the transitional phase in the enclave.

Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel began Monday in Egypt to discuss mechanisms for a potential prisoner exchange as part of Trump’s plan.

Hamas has already delivered its response to mediators regarding the proposal.
