Chinese cars spark security fears in Israeli army

Reports indicate the Israeli army has begun recalling around 700 Chinese-made cars provided to senior officers over recent years, following warnings from military officials about potential security risks.

Earlier this year, the army banned all Chinese cars from military bases over concerns that their sensors and cameras could collect sensitive information. Most recalled vehicles are Chery Tiggo 8 Pro models, given to officers of lieutenant colonel and colonel rank with large families since 2022.

Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered the removal of the 700 cars from senior officers, relocating them to distant parking areas within bases. Investigations in August revealed these cars could transmit geolocation, audio, and even images from inside military premises.

This move reflects global security concerns, as the U.S. has previously restricted Chinese connected cars from sensitive sites and launched investigations into “smart Chinese vehicles” over fears they might collect user data and send it abroad
