The Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences at Middle East University organized the seventh season of the “University Reciter” competition, with the participation of 50 male and female students from various academic disciplines.
The competition, which continues to attract growing student interest each year, aims to strengthen students’ connection to the Holy Qur’an, teach proper recitation and tajweed based on sound scholarly principles, enhance self-confidence, and develop public speaking and presentation skills.
In the male category, first place was awarded to physiotherapy student Mohammad Al-Zaqm. Second place was jointly shared by nursing student Hamza Hammouda and physiotherapy student Abdulrahman Al-Badawi Youssef.
In the female category, interior design student Angham Al-Manasir won first place, while second place went to Houria Marzouq, a student in the professional diploma program in Hospital Administration and Medical Records.
The judging panel consisted of Dr. Mohammad Al-Arman, faculty member at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences; Dr. Abdullah Sarbal, Imam of Abu Qura Mosque and representative of the Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites; and Dr. Anwar Al-Shaltouni, former lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University and supervisor on the global “Sanad” platform for teaching the Holy Qur’an.
The winners were honored during a ceremony held by the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences in celebration of World Arabic Language Day, underscoring the close connection between the Arabic language and the Qur’an, and highlighting the competition as one of the university’s key initiatives that integrates linguistic, ethical, and intellectual dimensions within its educational mission.
