Head of the Technical Investigation Department at the Cybercrime Unit, Major Musab Al-Rahahleh, warned of the growing activity of fraudulent trading platforms that promote quick profits and work-from-home opportunities, stressing that they are behind electronic fraud cases that have caused financial losses to citizens.
In a statement to Al-Mamlaka on Thursday, Al-Rahahleh said that while online fraud cases are not new, the methods used in cybercrime continue to evolve. He pointed to the emergence of fake trading platforms claiming to offer remote job opportunities and high returns within a short period.
He explained that the Cybercrime Unit is monitoring and handling numerous cases of fraud and fake trading conducted عبر social media platforms, noting that most of these platforms operate from خارج Jordan, particularly from East Asian countries.
Al-Rahahleh added that the unit coordinates with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to pursue those responsible in their respective countries, in accordance with established legal protocols and procedures.
He also indicated that several citizens have suffered financial losses and lost access to their social media accounts after falling victim to electronic fraud schemes.
He urged citizens not to engage with untrusted links or unlicensed platforms and to verify the legality and credibility of any platform through official authorities before investing or transferring funds. He emphasized that promises of quick wealth on social media are often indicators of fraud.
