The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the incursion of the extremist Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif on Monday. Protected by Israeli occupation police, the act was described as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, a condemned escalation, an unacceptable provocation, and a violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the existing historical and legal status quo.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and condemnation of the extremist Israeli minister’s actions. He characterized the incursion as a blatant breach of international law and Israel's obligations as the occupying power in occupied Jerusalem, and an attempt to impose temporal and spatial division. He emphasized that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities.
Al-Majali renewed the Kingdom's condemnation of Israel's continued closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif to worshippers and the restriction of freedom of worship—acts that constitute a gross violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo. He warned of the grave consequences of continuing these practices.
Furthermore, Al-Majali stressed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entire area of 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He reiterated that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulate entry to it.
