Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon killed 89 people and injured 700 on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Lebanese Ministry of Health said.
The ministry described the simultaneous strikes, which hit various regions including Beirut, as a "very dangerous escalation." Authorities urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and clear traffic in the capital to allow ambulances access to targeted sites.
The Lebanese Red Cross deployed 100 ambulances to the affected areas, and hospitals were requested to evacuate non-urgent cases to accommodate the high number of casualties. Internal security forces also called on the public to stay away from the vicinity of the strikes and roads leading to medical facilities.
Lebanese Health Minister Rakkan Nasser al-Din confirmed the widespread casualties resulting from the operations.
The Israeli military said it carried out its largest bombing campaign in Lebanon since March 2026, striking approximately 100 Hezbollah headquarters and military infrastructure sites across Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. The military referred to the strikes as the largest wave since the beginning of "Operation Lion's Roar."
