U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has ordered the Navy to destroy any vessels attempting to plant mines in the Strait of Hormuz, marking a sharp escalation in pressure on Iran to reopen the vital maritime corridor.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: "I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any boat, no matter how small... that is planting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz." He added, "There must be no hesitation. Furthermore, our minesweepers are currently working to clear the Strait."
The directive follows recent maritime tensions and is part of broader U.S. efforts to ensure the free flow of global energy supplies through the strategic waterway.
