Jordan’s Ambassador in Cairo, Amjad Al-Adaileh, affirmed the Kingdom’s pride in its strong and longstanding relations with Al-Azhar and its religious and academic institutions during a meeting on Thursday with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, at Al-Azhar headquarters.

At the start of the meeting, Ambassador Al-Adaileh conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to the Grand Imam. He emphasized Jordan’s deep appreciation for Al-Azhar’s significant role in supporting the causes of the nation, defending Muslim communities worldwide, and promoting the true image of Islam as a religion of moderation, tolerance, and compassion.

In the context of cultural and academic cooperation, Al-Adaileh commended the care and support provided to Jordanian students studying at Al-Azhar University, including scholarships for outstanding students and assistance in addressing any challenges they may face during their studies.

For his part, the Grand Imam highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Al-Azhar and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He expressed his appreciation for King Abdullah II’s efforts in serving Arab and Islamic causes, wishing him continued health and well-being.

He also praised the intellectual and humanitarian contributions of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, noting his engagement with Al-Azhar in advancing scholarly and cultural dialogue, integrating human sciences with ethical and religious values, and promoting the humanization of ideas and technology.

In addition, he commended the constructive communication of Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King’s Chief Adviser for Religious and Cultural Affairs and Personal Envoy, with Al-Azhar and his active support for initiatives serving Islam and the nation.

The Grand Imam further affirmed Al-Azhar’s readiness to meet Jordan’s educational and religious needs by offering scholarships to Jordanian students, dispatching Al-Azhar envoys, and hosting Jordanian imams for training at Al-Azhar’s International Academy for the Training of Imams and Preachers across various religious disciplines.

The meeting was attended by senior religious and academic officials from Al-Azhar and its university, as well as Riyad Al-Najada, Counselor at the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo.
