Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf addressed U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in a sarcastic post featuring a map detailing the length of Iran’s borders.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Qalibaf wrote: "If you built two walls, one from New York to the West Coast and another from Los Angeles to the East Coast, their total length would be 7,755 kilometers—roughly 1,000 kilometers less than Iran's borders. Good luck blockading a country with such borders! P.S. for Pete Hegseth: 1 kilometer = 0.62 miles."
Analysis of the potential failure of the American blockade
In an analysis by CNN's Stephen Collinson, he noted: "Even if Trump vows to move forward, there remains the possibility that the blockade strategy is simply flawed. If the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei did not push Iran to withdraw, and if weeks of continuous bombardment did not break the resolve of its leaders, is there any reason to believe an economic crisis would?"
Collinson added: "The Islamic Republic’s persistence and stubbornness have become legendary; Iran has been under Western sanctions for decades. It endured a horrific eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s that left an estimated one million victims. Every time protesters reached a critical mass, the regime sent its enforcers into the streets... The core of the regime for the forty-seven years since the Islamic Revolution has centered on resisting the American 'Great Satan.' It may choose societal collapse over surrendering to Trump."
