Consumer Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply received 257 complaints last month, of which 194 were resolved, representing a 75% processing rate.

In a statement issued Sunday, the ministry said the directorate responded "effectively to citizens' concerns," adding that it issued 2 violations and 2 notices to commercial establishments, as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to monitor markets and ensure consumer rights.

The statement noted the directorate dealt with a total of 818 complaints from the beginning of this year until the end of April, compared to 364 during the same period last year.

This effort reflects the "increasing" public confidence in the ministry's oversight channels and its capacity to handle complaints "professionally and promptly." According to the data, the electrical sector recorded 204 complaints, at a rate of 25% of the total figure, the e-commerce industry saw 168 complaints at 20%, the automotive sector registered 109 complaints at 13%, and the services sector submitted 67 complaints, accounting for 8%.

The statement said warranties and contracts constituted 43% of the complaints, totaling 353.

Grievances related to defective goods or services ranked 2nd at a rate of 40%, with 324 cases, while reports of misleading advertising accounted for 81 complaints, or 10%.
