AMMAN May 18 2026: The Director General of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, Yazan Al-Khudeir, confirmed that the festival constitutes a prominent tourist and cultural destination for Jordan, in addition to its role in supporting economic and developmental activity in the Jerash Governorate.
According to a press release issued by the festival management on Monday, these remarks came within the framework of preparations for the launch of the festival's 40th edition. The discussion took place during a meeting held yesterday at the Greater Jerash Municipality, attended by the Governor of Jerash, Dr. Malik Khreizat, and the head of the municipal committee, Mohammad Bani Yassin, to review the technical and logistical arrangements for the upcoming milestone.
Al-Khudeir discussed the terms of the upcoming agreement between the Jerash Municipality and the festival management. He also addressed mechanisms to enhance coordination among various official, security, and service authorities to ensure integrated efforts and high organizational readiness.
He emphasized that beyond its cultural and artistic standing as a Jordanian platform that embraces local creativity and hosts elite Arab and foreign artists, the festival serves as an important economic pillar for the governorate. It stimulates commercial activity and generates seasonal employment opportunities for the local community.
He pointed out that the management prioritizes the success of this 40th edition, planning an opening ceremony fitting for the milestone, alongside a diverse cultural and artistic program. This program is designed to reflect the bright image of the festival and reinforce the status of the archaeological city of Jerash as a leading destination in the region.
Al-Khudeir indicated that the current edition will feature a wide variety of literary and artistic events, alongside heritage and folklore performances from sisterly and friendly nations connected to Jordan through cultural exchange agreements. He stressed that the cultural and artistic programs, along with the opening ceremony, will carry a character that aligns with the symbolism of the 40th anniversary, coinciding with the writing of the Jordanian narrative, with full details to be announced soon.
The meeting covered various field and service aspects related to the event venues. Al-Khudeir highlighted the importance of the participatory approach adopted by the festival with cultural and artistic bodies to present an image that reflects the richness of Jordanian creativity.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Khudeir expressed his appreciation to all partners and supporters working toward the success of the festival. He asserted that the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts will remain a unifying national project expressing Jordan's history and civilization, welcoming everyone in a spirit of partnership and belonging.
