The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), in cooperation with the Jordanian Embassy in Ottawa, hosted a formal reception under the patronage of the Jordanian Ambassador to Canada, Sabah Al-Rafei. The event celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Kingdom's independence, Throne Day, and Army Day.
The Canadian government was represented at the event by Minister of Sport Adam van Koeverden. The reception was also attended by Canadian officials, members of Parliament and the Senate, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Canada, and representatives from the business, investment, tourism, culture, and media sectors.
A Journey of Resilience and Historic Achievements
During the ceremony, Ambassador Sabah Al-Rafei delivered a speech emphasizing that independence represents a journey of resilience, achievement, and comprehensive modernization witnessed by Jordan over eight decades under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
The reception featured various segments highlighting Jordanian culture, heritage, and tourism. A promotional video was also screened, showcasing the Kingdom's key tourist attractions and celebrating the historic participation of the national football team ("Al-Nashama") in the World Cup.
Flag-Raising and Illuminating Niagara Falls
In celebration of Independence Day, a Jordanian flag-raising ceremony was previously held at the Ottawa City Hall building on May 25, 2026. The event was attended by the Mayor of Ottawa, alongside heads of diplomatic missions, members of the Canadian Parliament, and members of the Jordanian diaspora.
On the evening of the same day, Niagara Falls was illuminated in the colors of the Jordanian flag. A large number of Jordanian community members traveled from the city of Mississauga to the site to participate in the event, which featured traditional Dabke dances and patriotic folk songs.
