Anti-begging teams from the Ministry of Social Development, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, apprehended an Arab national female beggar on Wednesday carrying $46,600, which she accumulated while begging in Downtown Amman. The individual had been converting her begging proceeds into foreign currency.
The Ministry of Social Development noted that she was referred to the competent judicial authorities for necessary legal action, adding that the detained individual has a prior history of professional begging.
The Ministry urged citizens not to give money to beggars and instead direct their donations and charity to officially recognized charitable organizations authorized to conduct fundraising campaigns. It emphasized that beggars often solicit aid by fabricating illnesses or claiming financial hardship.
The Ministry indicated that it receives all complaints and reports regarding begging through its dedicated hotline at 0793344330, or through anti-begging committees and field teams stationed across the Kingdom.
