The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has initiated unannounced inspection campaigns across public and private school canteens to ensure food safety compliance as the 2026–2027 academic year begins.
​JFDA representative Ruwaida Abdullah emphasized that school food safety is a collective responsibility managed by joint inspection committees from the JFDA, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Capital Health Directorate. Key health regulations highlighted include:
​Banned Items: All processed and unprocessed meat products (including shawarma, burgers, hot dogs, and mortadella), leftover foods, energy drinks, soft drinks, caffeinated beverages, ice cream, foods high in sugars or hydrogenated oils, and falafel sandwiches.
​Permitted Items: UHT liquid milk, juices and nectars, refrigerated yogurt and laban products, pudding, custard, pastries and sandwiches from licensed sources, biscuits, dates, fruits, vegetables, and chocolate and chip items adhering to strict standards.
​Role of Parents: Parents are urged to monitor their children's food choices and avoid packing perishable items requiring refrigeration—such as meats, eggs, or dairy—in school lunchboxes.
​The inspection campaigns cover schools across all governorates, including rural and remote areas, to safeguard student health throughout the school year.
