The Chairman of the Parliamentary Education Committee, MP Ibrahim Al-Qaraleh, sent an urgent message to students of the 2009 cohort via Rum News Agency, which read:
Dear students of the 2009 cohort, and esteemed parents,
Over the past few days, I have received hundreds of phone calls and messages from students and their parents regarding the decision on student allocation percentages across academic tracks, and the resulting anxiety and concern it has caused among students, especially with the imminent start of this new stage in their educational journey.
I wish to reassure our students and their parents that this matter is receiving direct attention and follow-up from the Parliamentary Education and Higher Education Committee. We fully recognize the level of concern this decision has generated, and we equally understand that any decision affecting the future of students must be built upon clear, well-considered foundations, keeping in mind the best interests of the students and the stability of the educational process.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Education and Higher Education Committee will be held tomorrow at the House of Representatives at 12:00 PM, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, and His Excellency Mr. Mazen Al-Qadi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to discuss this matter directly, listen to the rationale behind the decision and its impacts, and address what achieves justice and public interest for our students.
Furthermore, the previous statement issued by the Director of the Examinations and Testing Directorate—affirming that field allocation percentages would not apply to the 2009 cohort—will be among the key points we will request clarification on and discuss during the meeting.
I say to our students with utmost clarity: There is no need for anxiety or haste in making any decision regarding your future before the full picture becomes clear.
We in the Parliamentary Education and Higher Education Committee are following this file with complete responsibility and trust. We will serve as your voice on this issue and place the best interests of the students at the forefront of our priorities. We will not accept decisions that impact their future without adequate study or without due consideration for their circumstances, abilities, and educational choices.
Our confidence in our students is immense, as is our faith that responsible dialogue will yield solutions that serve them and safeguard their right to choose the pathway that aligns with their abilities and ambitions.
Rest assured, dear students… the matter will be on the table for discussion tomorrow, and we will fulfill our duty toward you in full.
Dr. Ibrahim Saqer Al-Qaraleh
Chairman of the Parliamentary Education and Higher Education Committee
