The Ministry of Transport announced that construction on the King Hussein Bridge Public Transport Terminal project has officially commenced, with excavation work underway, a temporary parking area established for border vehicles, and barriers installed along the main entrance to facilitate equipment movement.
In a press statement, the ministry noted that operations are being executed in close coordination with relevant utility authorities—including water, electricity, and telecommunications—with project completion targeted within 12 months by August 2027.
Budgeted at JOD 2.6 million and spanning 17.5 dunams adjacent to the border crossing, the project aims to ease traffic congestion at the bridge's main gates while delivering comprehensive, modern services for arriving and departing travelers.
The terminal will feature extensive parking infrastructure, including 138 bays for mid-sized buses and shared taxis ("Jisser service"), 87 spots for private vehicles (including designated accessible parking), two rental car loading bays, and four electric vehicle charging stations.
Additionally, the complex will include climate-controlled administrative and service facilities powered by a solar energy system. Key structures feature a two-story, 1,300-square-meter commercial and administrative building housing a waiting lounge, prayer room, retail shops, and administrative offices.
The development plan also incorporates a driver lounge building, a transit control tower, a tire service center, and various passenger shelters throughout the site.
