Director of the Labor Relations Directorate at the Ministry of Labor, Adnan Al-Dahamshah, confirmed on Thursday that the current unified labor contract for private school teachers stipulates that the duration of a teacher's contract in private schools is 12 full months, starting on August 1 of each year and ending on July 31 of the following year; thus, the teacher is entitled to a salary for the entire duration of the contract.
Al-Dahamshah explained to "Al-Mamlaka" that the unified labor contract for private school teachers remains valid until July 31, 2028, clarifying that the contract's addendum was deposited with the ministry on July 30, 2025.
He added that the duration of the addendum begins on July 31, 2026, and applies starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, ending on July 31, 2028, noting that it represents a renewal of the unified labor contract deposited with the ministry for years.
Al-Dahamshah pointed out that the expiration of the unified labor contract's term does not mean the disappearance of any benefit contained in it for the worker's favor; rather, these benefits remain in effect according to the provisions of the Labor Law, noting that the contract used to be automatically renewed every three years, while both parties may agree on a shorter duration, as is the case in the current addendum.
He stated that negotiation to renew the contract takes place before the end of its duration, provided that the renewal process includes new or better benefits for the teacher and worker.
Regarding non-compliant practices, such as forcing the teacher to sign a pre-dated resignation or returning part of the salary in cash after transferring it to the bank, Al-Dahamshah said the ministry deals with these cases through the "Himaya" platform, which allows submitting confidential complaints, in addition to inspection tours carried out by ministry inspectors on schools across the Kingdom at the beginning of each academic year.
He emphasized that the automation of electronic contracts was designed to limit non-compliant practices that may occur in some private schools and kindergartens.
Regarding salary transfers to banks, Al-Dahamshah noted that the Social Security Law obligates the employer to transfer the due contributions for both the worker and the employer at an amount not less than the minimum wage, explaining that the ministry deals with violations through complaints and inspection visits.
Regarding legal procedures against non-compliant schools, Al-Dahamshah said that the Ministry of Labor applies the provisions of the Labor Law and the tools granted by the law, emphasizing that it will not tolerate any school that violates contract terms, and measures may reach closing the institution if the violation is repeated more than once.
He explained that the Ministry of Labor does not interfere in the issue of raising school tuition fees, clarifying that its role is limited to regulating the employment relationship between the school owner and the teacher or worker in the school or kindergarten.
