The latest data on the numbers of registered refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan showed that their total number reached 366,077 people of various nationalities, as of September 1, 2026.
According to the data, Syrian refugees constitute the vast majority of total registered refugees and asylum seekers, at 343,142 refugees, accounting for 93.7 percent, followed by Iraqis numbering 12,010 refugees, then Yemenis with about 6,049 refugees, and Sudanese with 4,200 refugees, alongside other nationalities.
The figures showed that 289,023 refugees and asylum seekers, representing 79 percent of the total, reside in urban areas and local communities, while 77,054 refugees, or 21 percent, reside in refugee camps.
Zaatari camp topped the list of camps in terms of registered refugees with about 45 thousand refugees, followed by Azraq camp, which houses about 31 thousand refugees, while the number of residents in Al-Hadiqa camp reached 154 people.
At the level of geographical distribution across governorates, the capital, Amman, accounted for the largest share of refugees and asylum seekers registered outside camps, with about 125 thousand refugees, followed by Irbid governorate with about 57 thousand refugees, then Mafraq with about 46 thousand refugees.
The data also indicated that children account for more than half of the total refugees and asylum seekers, as their number reached 186 thousand children, representing 50.9 percent, which reflects the ongoing need for support for basic services, foremost of which are education, healthcare, and protection.
Regarding special needs, the data showed the registration of about 51 thousand refugees suffering from health conditions, and about 20 thousand children at risk, alongside thousands of individuals requiring legal and physical protection or belonging to categories more vulnerable to risks.
