U.S. President Donald Trump stated Monday that Iran wants to reach a diplomatic agreement with the United States "very fast," adding that he will personally determine whether Washington engages in talks.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump described Iran as a "failing nation" eager to strike a deal, confirming that while the U.S. remains open to the concept, any potential agreement must meet strict standards.
Key Highlights of Trump's Statements
Conditional Diplomacy: Trump reiterated that Tehran is desperate for an agreement "at any cost," but emphasized he will not accept a "bad deal," maintaining that any accord signed by Washington must be comprehensive and bulletproof.
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Red Line: He reaffirmed that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a non-negotiable objective, stating unequivocally that Iran "cannot have a nuclear weapon, and will not have a nuclear weapon."
Midterm Election Timeline: Trump projected that the conflict with Iran could draw to a close immediately following—or potentially prior to—the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
Energy Market Outlook: Addressing domestic economic impacts and recent fuel price surges, Trump asserted that gasoline prices would rapidly and normalize once hostilities subside, defending the military campaign as a necessary action.
