Following three consecutive price hikes on several cigarette brands since the beginning of the year, tobacco companies are preparing to raise prices on additional varieties in the coming days.
According to sources, the anticipated increase will range between 5 and 10 piastres per pack. The price adjustments will target specific brands, though the final list and exact implementation date have not yet been announced.
If implemented, this will mark the fourth price increase on cigarette products within 2026. The market has seen a series of upward adjustments since the start of the year, beginning in January when prices on several brands rose by 10 to 20 piastres per pack.
In May, another round of price hikes affected additional brands—including "Kent Blue" and "Kent Silver"—bringing the price of a pack to 2.60 JOD. That May adjustment was considered the third increase of the year for certain products.
As news of another potential surge circulates, cigarette prices have once again sparked public debate, raising questions about the drivers behind frequent price hikes within such a short timeframe, the regulatory oversight in the domestic market, and whether tobacco companies are required to secure official approvals or complete regulatory procedures prior to adjusting consumer prices.
If these new increases take effect, cigarette brands will have undergone four separate price revisions within a single year. While no formal announcement confirming the upcoming rates has been issued, attention remains focused on the updated price lists expected from tobacco manufacturers in the days ahead.
