Former Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Mohammad Al-Najjar, revealed that Jordan has largely exhausted all suitable locations for constructing new dams, emphasizing that "there is virtually no valley left in Jordan where a dam has not been built."
In a statement to RUM, Al-Najjar explained that the total storage capacity of Jordan's existing dams ranges between 280 and 285 million cubic meters. However, these reservoirs rarely reach full capacity, with annual storage levels typically falling below their maximum threshold.
He noted that the only remaining viable location for a new dam is the "Al-Malaqi" area, where floodwaters from both the Mujib and Wala dams converge. Constructing a dam at this confluence could effectively capture surplus water runoff.
