The Open Market Operations Committee at the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) decided, during its sixth meeting of 2026, to raise interest rates on all monetary policy instruments by 25 basis points, effective Monday, September 21, 2026.
The Central Bank stated that the decision aligns with its primary objective of maintaining monetary stability and enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of assets denominated in Jordanian Dinars by aligning domestic interest rates with prevailing trends in regional and international financial markets.
The committee reached its decision following a review of major domestic, regional, and international economic, monetary, and financial developments, central bank monetary policy trends, and measures taken to manage rising inflationary pressures.
On the domestic level, the Kingdom's inflation rate reached 2.20% during the first eight months of 2026, compared to 1.86% during the same period last year.
Available indicators demonstrate the strength of the Kingdom's monetary and banking sector and the continued recovery of economic performance. Tourism revenue grew by 2.9% during the first eight months of 2026 to reach approximately $5.6 billion, driven by strong growth over the past three months, which averaged around 17%.
Remittances from Jordanian expatriates also maintained strong momentum, growing by 14.1% during the first seven months of 2026 to reach nearly $3.0 billion. National exports increased by 7.2% over the same period, reaching $6.6 billion.
The Central Bank reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring economic and monetary developments, assessing their impact on the national economy, and taking necessary measures to safeguard monetary and financial stability while enhancing national economic resilience.
