The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the daily contracted quantity of natural gas to supply the Lebanese Republic is estimated at approximately 2 million cubic meters per day, noting that the gas supply to Lebanon has not yet commenced as of today.
In its response to inquiries, the ministry added that determining the required daily quantities of natural gas will take place once the Lebanese side confirms the expected demand schedules, following the readiness of Lebanon's infrastructure.
It noted that the Lebanese side is currently working on repairing and rehabilitating the gas networks within its territory.
The ministry explained that supplying Lebanon with natural gas will be conducted by importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from global markets and offloading them into the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at the Port of Aqaba.
Regarding supplies to Syria, the ministry stated that the daily contracted quantity of natural gas is estimated at approximately 4 million cubic meters, clarifying that supplying Syria is based on its daily requirements.
The ministry affirmed that supplying both Lebanon and Syria with natural gas simultaneously will not impact the Kingdom's domestic needs or energy supply security.
It pointed out that the Kingdom possesses four sources for natural gas supplies, including pipeline natural gas from the Egyptian side and Chevron, locally produced natural gas from the Risha gas field, and LNG from the FSRU supplied through the LNG terminal in Aqaba.
It added that the capacity of the floating regasification vessel is sufficient to cover the Kingdom's natural gas needs while supplying natural gas to Syria and Lebanon.
According to the ministry, the strategy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources aims to enhance energy supply security by diversifying the Kingdom's natural gas sources rather than relying on a single source, ensuring the continuous supply of power generation plants and industrial sectors.
Regarding the role of the Jordanian-Lebanese agreement in strengthening Jordan's regional standing, the ministry stated that the agreement contributes to consolidating Jordan's position as a pivotal regional hub for energy exchange and transit, leveraging advanced infrastructure that includes the Arab Gas Pipeline and the FSRU in Aqaba.
