In response to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Dima Tahboub regarding tourist parties and events, particularly in Petra and Aqaba, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reaffirmed its commitment to cultural and moral standards and the values of Jordanian society.
The Ministry stated that it does not permit any events that conflict with the religious and cultural constants of Jordanian society or prejudice Jordan's civilizational heritage and national identity.
In its official response, the Ministry explained that applications to hold events undergo technical, administrative, and legal reviews considering the nature, location, duration, participant capacity, public safety requirements, and potential impact on archaeological sites and visitors. The Ministry noted that it had not received any formal complaints or feedback regarding these parties.
MP Dima Tahboub's inquiry addressed the criteria for granting event approvals, whether the Ministry had reviewed the content and nature of performance shows, complaints or feedback received, and the procedures taken in response. Her question also inquired about the Ministry's mechanisms for protecting cultural identity, consulting local communities, and the number of events canceled or modified over the past three years.
Tahboub submitted her parliamentary question following public protests expressing rejection of behaviors and violations observed during several celebrations that contradicted the moral and social values of Jordanian society.
