In a scene that has become worryingly frequent, several public hospitals are witnessing a noticeable surge in stray cats inside medical departments and patient rooms. This has sparked a wave of discontent among visitors and patients, raising urgent questions regarding the level of health supervision and infection control standards in vital public facilities.
Public hospitals serve as the primary destination for the majority of citizens seeking healthcare, which assumes they should be exemplary models of hygiene and strict sterilization. However, stray cats roaming freely in corridors, waiting halls, and even near sensitive departments such as emergency rooms and outpatient clinics, signals severe health risks.
Healthcare experts warn that the presence of stray animals inside medical facilities acts as a major vector for microbes, parasites, and zoonotic diseases. Furthermore, it poses a risk of contaminating patient food and disturbing inpatients in critical conditions who require a sterile and quiet environment.
In this context, a number of patients' families and visitors expressed deep dissatisfaction over the recurrence of these scenes, questioning the role of hospital management and relevant regulatory bodies. Eyewitnesses conveyed their frustration over the lack of genuine measures to combat this phenomenon, calling for urgent intervention from responsible health authorities to enforce strict oversight and periodically implement pest and stray animal control protocols, rather than relying on temporary fixes or ignoring repeated complaints.
Amid the persistence of this issue, calls are mounting to tighten internal supervision and oblige cleaning and service contractors to raise operational efficiency to prevent animals from entering medical buildings. Recommendations also include conducting periodic preventive campaigns in coordination with relevant municipal authorities to manage stray animals around hospital premises safely and humanely, alongside initiating administrative investigations to hold accountable those negligent in enforcing public safety and infection control standards within public facilities. Consequently, the local public awaits decisive, practical action from the Ministry of Health and regulatory agencies to restore hygiene and safety standards in medical establishments, which should remain sanctuaries for healing rather than venues for new environmental hazards.
