AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration met on Monday with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) at the commission's headquarters to evaluate strategic and technical preparations for the upcoming local elections and bolster institutional coordination to ensure seamless execution.
The high-level meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Independent Election Commission, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Local Administration, and specialized technical teams from both entities. Discussions focused on core operational prerequisites and early inter-agency alignment needed for the next phase of the electoral cycle.
Both parties agreed to establish a joint steering committee co-chaired by the Secretary-General of the IEC and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Local Administration, alongside technical delegates. The committee will oversee operational readiness, coordinate administrative frameworks, and assess technical and legislative requirements governing the electoral process.
Delegates underscored the necessity of collaborative policy formulation regarding secondary legislation and regulatory bylaws under the new Local Administration Law. This includes establishing electoral district demarcations, municipal zoning regulations, campaign rules, and formal protocols covering candidacy, voting, and electoral appeals.
Both institutions reiterated their commitment to pooling administrative resources, synchronizing field capabilities, and launching nationwide civic awareness campaigns. These public awareness initiatives will educate citizens on the provisions of the new Local Administration Law, emphasize the role of local council elections in broadening democratic participation, and encourage active voter turnout.
