Representing His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II participated on Wednesday in the MED9 Summit of southern European nations, held in Croatia under the theme "Towards Greater Security, Sustainability, and Resilience in the Mediterranean Region."
In his address to the summit, the Crown Prince expressed appreciation for Jordan’s invitation to participate in the gathering for the third consecutive year, noting that the engagement reflects the strength of relations between the Kingdom and MED9 member states.
Crown Prince Al Hussein emphasized the necessity of intensifying international efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and safeguard freedom of navigation in international waterways, calling on the global community to address the root causes of regional escalation.
His Royal Highness highlighted the broader consequences of the war involving Iran on both the region and the international community. He noted that while certain nations faced direct security attacks, numerous countries encountered severe economic strain, including elevated inflation, energy supply shortages, and global supply chain disruptions—challenges whose impacts have directly affected Jordan.
Reiterating the core priority of regional stability, the Crown Prince stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause in addressing Middle Eastern crises. He pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, compounded by persistent restrictions on the entry of aid, including shipments originating from Jordan.
His Royal Highness reaffirmed Jordan’s firm stance rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, characterizing such measures as violations of international law that must be halted immediately. He further warned against dangerous escalations in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including ongoing settler attacks, asserting that the two-state solution represents the sole viable pathway to achieving a just and lasting peace.
Addressing conditions in Syria and Lebanon, the Crown Prince stated that Jordan works closely with international partners to support both nations' efforts toward stability, development, and sovereignty, despite obstacles posed by continued Israeli aggression.
Highlighting Jordan’s partnership with the European Union, His Royal Highness outlined opportunities for joint ventures with MED9 nations across energy, trade, and technology sectors to drive job creation, educational exchange, and technical expertise.
He described Jordan as a strategic gateway connecting the Middle East to Europe, offering investment prospects in electrical grid interconnection, renewable energy, rail transit, digital connectivity, infrastructure, and logistical corridors. The Crown Prince noted that many of these strategic initiatives will be presented during the upcoming Jordan-European Investment Conference, which the Kingdom is scheduled to host in November.
