AMMAN / KARAK
Director of Public Security Major General Obeidallah Maaytah revealed on Monday during a joint press conference that the terrorist crime in Karak was not pre-planned. The three perpetrators made a spontaneous decision to commit the attack while walking behind the funeral procession.
Major General Maaytah identified the three terrorists as Hazza Zaidan Mohammad (the lead planner), Meshaal Zaidan Mohammad, and Ahmad Sami Hussein. All three belong to the same family and resided near the location where the crime was executed.
"The decision came as a result of a convergence of their ideas due to their shared ideological formation, deviation from the correct path, and adoption of extremist and terrorist ideology," Maaytah explained.
Providing details on the security operations and subsequent raid, Maaytah reported:
Crime Scene Departure & Evidentiary Tracking: The three individuals fled the scene in a single vehicle, which was subsequently located and seized by authorities, establishing a direct link between the suspects and the getaway vehicle.
Dawn Raid & Firearms Seizure: Upon the arrival of a tactical unit at an abandoned house in Karak where the suspects were hiding, the three terrorists initiated gunfire against security forces. Forces engaged under standard rules of engagement, taking control of the building and arresting all three individuals, who were injured in the clash and transferred to the hospital under guard. A number of firearms and a large quantity of ammunition were seized at the site.
Search & Containment Protocols: Over the preceding three days, raid teams conducted continuous search and sweeping operations across a broad geographical area encompassing villages, mountainous terrain, and rugged valleys. Containment measures included establishing checkpoints, deploying patrols, and utilizing drones to isolate the sector. After midnight on Sunday, tactical teams partitioned a targeted village into sectors and pinpointed several abandoned structures, leading to the precise containment of the site.
Investigation & Public Cooperation: Investigative procedures commenced immediately following the attack along two parallel tracks: a criminal/intelligence track focused on evidence collection at the crime scene, and an operational track focused on emergency response, tracking movement patterns, and executing sweeps. Maaytah highlighted the invaluable role of information provided by patriotic citizens, reaffirming that Jordan will remain a safe haven resilient against any attempt to disrupt its stability.
