AMMAN
Minister of Government Communication and Official Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani stated on Monday during a joint press conference that the terrorist incident in Karak represents a pivotal historical juncture in Jordan’s national campaign to eradicate takfiri ideology and extremism across all sectors.
Offering condolences to the families of the martyrs and wishing a rapid recovery for the injured, Al-Momani noted that Jordanians recently laid to rest the ninth martyr of the attack, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qsous, in a ceremony reflecting national gratitude for his service. He emphasized that the overwhelming solidarity shown by the public demonstrates the strength of Jordan’s national fabric and its absolute rejection of hatred and division.
Al-Momani highlighted several key points regarding the government's strategic approach and media policy during the crisis:
Eradicating Extremist Ideology: The government will execute royal directives issued during the recent National Security Council meeting to review counter-extremism policies and dry up the sources of radicalization through a systematic, multi-sector plan involving government, religious, educational, media, and civil society institutions.
Preserving Social Cohesion & Equal Citizenship: Al-Momani warned against sliding into debates that feed hate speech or foster division, stressing that citizenship is not measured by religious or social affiliation. He affirmed that no group or demographic will be generalized against due to the actions of a violent takfiri minority, stating, "We will not allow terrorism to achieve through words what it failed to achieve through crime."
Countering Misinformation: Combatting rumors and disinformation remains critical to protecting society during crises, as false information breeds fear and undermines public trust. The government remains committed to providing accurate and reliable updates.
Commending Responsible Journalism: The Minister expressed appreciation for Jordanian media outlets and journalists for their high degree of professionalism, restraint, and respect for the privacy and dignity of the martyrs, the injured, and their families throughout the coverage.
