Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi affirmed on Monday that Jordan serves as a strategic partner for Iraq in the region, stressing that Jordan’s security is an integral part of Iraq’s security and that both nations share a common security destiny.
Speaking during the signing ceremony of nine bilateral agreements aimed at boosting cooperation across multiple sectors, Al-Zaidi stated that his visit to Amman was not merely protocol, but a practical working mission to advance bilateral ties. Describing Iraqi-Jordanian relations as historic, he expressed Iraq's commitment to deepening strategic partnerships across all fields to reflect these close bonds.
For his part, Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan stated that Jordan and Iraq possess a real opportunity to elevate economic cooperation to match their distinguished political and brotherly relations. He emphasized the necessity of transitioning joint economic projects into actual execution through clear practical steps and timelines, particularly in energy, industry, transport, trade, and logistics.
Prime Minister Hassan reaffirmed that Jordan remains a loyal brother and steadfast supporter of Iraq, noting that Iraq's security and stability are fundamental to the security of Jordan and the entire region. Given the rapid regional challenges, Hassan called for intensified consultation with Arab nations, prioritizing diplomatic solutions, respecting state sovereignty, and rejecting external interventions that destabilize regional security.
Addressing the Palestinian cause, Hassan condemned ongoing Israeli actions in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza aimed at undermining the prospects of an independent Palestinian state. He warned that Israeli settlement expansion poses a severe threat to regional and global security, stressing that supporting Palestinians on their land remains the cornerstone of Jordan's diplomatic efforts under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Additionally, Hassan reiterated Jordan's support for Syria and Lebanon in achieving security, stability, and development, while rejecting repeated Israeli aggressions and the occupation of their territories.
