Jordan affirmed on Tuesday its pride in the brotherly relations binding the Kingdom with the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, and its keenness to develop these relations to serve the interests of both brotherly countries and ensure coordination in confronting all shared challenges, including the Daesh (ISIS) organization, which poses a common threat to both nations.
Minister of Government Communication and Official Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani emphasized the great respect for the Syrian state and its brotherly people. He affirmed that coordination between Jordan and Syria in fighting terrorism, weapons smuggling, and drug trafficking is institutional and continuous, having been ongoing for years. This coordination stems from a firm conviction to consolidate the security of both brotherly countries and reflects their joint action to establish security and stability.
The official spokesperson stressed that the airstrikes carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces – The Arab Army yesterday targeted Daesh locations after Jordan's patience was exhausted regarding the movements of these terrorist groups and their targeting of national security.
He explained that the operations were carried out based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan. He pointed out that preliminary results of these operations indicate, up to this moment, significant losses within the ranks of Daesh, estimated at more than 20 operatives, alongside the destruction of a massive arms depot belonging to the organization.
The spokesperson expressed regret over the occurrence of civilian casualties, noting that Jordan refrained from targeting sites where intelligence indicated the presence of civilians. He confirmed that the competent Jordanian authorities are following up on this matter with their Syrian counterparts.
Al-Momani stressed that Jordan always takes all necessary precautions to avoid harming civilians, as it places the same importance on the lives of innocent civilians outside its borders as it does on the lives of Jordanians, based on its belief that human life and dignity are an indivisible value, regardless of nationality or location.
Al-Momani indicated that work will be undertaken with Syrian brothers to form a joint committee to follow up on the repercussions of the operation against Daesh, and to develop coordination in combating the terrorist organization to guarantee the security of both brotherly countries and peoples, as well as the protection of civilians.
The official spokesperson for the government affirmed that the security of Jordan and Syria is one, and that combating terrorism—which targeted Jordan days ago in the village of Humud in Karak—is a shared goal for both countries, which will continue working to enhance their deep-rooted brotherly relations.
The Minister of Government Communication concluded by emphasizing that no one can question Jordan's commitment toward Syria; Jordan has hosted Syrians, stood by them, and continuously provided them with support. The Kingdom seeks to stand alongside sisterly Syria, support its security, strengthen its unity and internal front, and enhance its presence at all levels. Furthermore, Jordan coordinates with international parties for the safety of Syrian territories and to guarantee its unity, stability, and the repelling of ambitions against it, especially in southern Syria.
