• The Digital Corridor offers partners and customers of both companies the highest level of flexibility and accessibility to the interconnection network extending from the Indian Ocean to Europe
• The digital corridor extends from Amman, then Saudi Arabia and from there to Egypt, with the possibility of expanding the infrastructure to include Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq and Jordan
Telecom Egypt (TE), Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator and one of the largest submarine cable operators in the region, has announced its collaboration with Zain-Omantel International (ZOI), the Middle East’s leading regional wholesale hub with more than 20 international submarine cables in the region, to a digital corridor linking the Mediterranean, Arabian Sea and the Arabian Gulf region, making it an unprecedented route for data transfer between Asia and Europe.
The innovative infrastructure of this digital corridor will extend from the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Arabian Gulf to the Mediterranean coast of the Arab Republic of Egypt, through an advanced mix of land and sea paths using a large number of optical fibers, and technically the land paths extending through the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt are characterized by reliability and the highest levels of protection, and on the other hand, the link will be directly between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt via a submarine cable. Through the Red Sea is characterized by high capacities and uses a large number of optical fibers and short distance between the two landing points.
The corridor is designed to offer Telecom Egypt and Zain Omantel International (ZOI) partners and customers with integrated solutions directly between disembarkation points from the Arabian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea and is in line with Zain-Omantel’s infrastructure expansion plans to include multiple regions including Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, through Zain-Omantel’s international network (ZOI), and cooperation with licensed companies to lower submarine cables in each country.
This cooperation provides submarine cable owners with new unprecedented and competitive solutions through which the construction cost will be significantly reduced, data transfer time and flexibility will be enhanced, and operations will be further accelerated by connecting to this open corridor, Telecom Egypt will also develop a new infrastructure across the Arab Republic of Egypt, linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean with the European continent, and integrating with Zain-Omantel International (ZOI) infrastructure in many regions across the Middle East, and will result in the new network corridor. Shorter paths and faster latency for data access, This makes it the best option for crossing from the Indian Ocean to Europe for submarine cable operators, content providers and telecom companies.
