Alphabet Google said Tuesday it had laid off hundreds of employees on its advertising sales team, in the company’s latest job cuts.
The move comes as a sign that layoffs will continue this year as companies look to adopt AI and automation programs to ease their workload.
Last week, Google said it would lay off several employees in voice assistants, the hardware teams responsible for Pixel, Nest and Fitbit, as well as the augmented reality team.
The company said Google's customer solutions unit, which serves mid-level advertising customers, will be the core team for future evolution.
Business Insider first reported the news early Tuesday.
Amazon said last week it would lay off hundreds of employees in its broadcast and studio operations and another 500 from video streaming platform Twitch.
Last month, Google, previously touted as a pioneer in encouraging AI research, unveiled its long-awaited AI model, Gemini, as it tries to catch up with Microsoft in the race.
In January 2023, Alphabet announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs, or 6% of its global workforce.
