In the first episode of Ramadan Nights with Al-Malaeb, Ahli Club President Awni Nagawi discussed the club’s history, challenges, and ambitions.
Nagawi highlighted that King Abdullah I named the club and stressed that Ahli has always been open to all Jordanians, not just Circassians. He also praised the Hashemite family’s role in supporting sports, noting that Ahli was the first club visited by Crown Prince Hussein.
He emphasized Ahli’s broad fan base, mentioning that some Faisaly and Wehdat supporters back the club after their own teams. He also credited Wehdat for reviving basketball’s popularity in Jordan while criticizing Ahli’s exclusion from the Basketball Federation elections.
Looking ahead, Nagawi revealed plans to build dedicated facilities for various sports, aiming to make Ahli Jordan’s top club within five years. However, he acknowledged financial struggles, stating the club’s debt stands at JD 950,000. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the football team’s performance, placing it under strict supervision.
Nagawi criticized sponsors for favoring clubs with larger fan bases, arguing that Ahli deserves greater support for its contributions to Jordanian sports.
