Amman – Under patronage of Princess Dana Firas, Middle East University hosts closing of Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY Jordan 2025) with participation of over 3,000 youth from across kingdom, alongside climate experts, ministers, MPs, senators and decision-makers.
Middle East University becomes first Jordanian university to host global youth event at local level, in line with vision to empower youth and provide platform to simulate international conferences and gain practical experience.
Conference, led by youth and joined by activists and policymakers, aims to raise environmental awareness, highlight youth-led initiatives and projects addressing climate change. Green Zone allocated for learning and knowledge exchange, Blue Zone for policy discussions and recommendations to be presented later at COP, amplifying Jordanian youth voice in shaping global climate policy.
Princess Dana Firas stresses climate change now direct threat to identity, culture and heritage, not only natural resources. She adds: ‘Youth are pulse, strength and creativity capable of turning climate ambitions into tangible reality.’
Vice President Ahmad Al-Louzi says hosting aligns with university mission to promote innovation and engage youth in solutions. MP Hamza Al-Hawamdeh, head of Environment and Climate Committee, affirms Jordanian youth drive sustainable development, calling conference key to shaping public policy.
Environment Secretary-General Omar Arabiat says LCOY 2025 provides national platform showcasing youth innovation in smart agriculture, clean energy and water solutions, making them core partners in policymaking and global representation.
Other speakers highlight urgency of empowering youth, with strong praise for event’s role in addressing climate challenges interactively and reinforcing partnership between public sector, private sector and civil society.
Conference runs two days, with Blue Zone discussions on energy, water, agriculture and industry, and Green Zone workshops covering climate justice, mental health, inclusivity, culture and youth entrepreneurship.
Event receives wide acclaim for strengthening youth participation in national climate policy during critical stage for Jordan’s sustainable development under Hashemite leadership.
